I just started and wondering if someone could explain the "gems" and "balance"? I have 14 gems and $250 balance, but I don't know what those actually mean. Could someone please explain?

Balance is your ingame money, u buy/sell things from shop (/shop) or the auction house (/ah) from players.
For gems, juat type /gems ingame.

Also, for starters there are (/jobs shop) which allows you to spend your job points for cool items. you get job points from your jobs, just like how you get money from jobs. each job income it will give job exp, money, and job points. you can also use (/jobs stats) which allows you to claim nice rewards each time you level up your job. there are (/quests) which allow you to get some gems and money by completing the quest requirements. you can get gems by jobs also.
